Rebuilding a social platform that connects athletes, schools, universities, and clubs (2020–2022)
In summer 2020, the client came to Mobius with an early mockup of a social platform designed to connect athletes with high schools, universities, and clubs. The goal was to turn the concept into a production ready platform where athletes can manage their profiles, discover opportunities, and build meaningful connections in one place.
The initial version was built on a legacy stack and was not a strong base for a scalable product. We needed to validate what users actually wanted, reshape the experience around real workflows, and rebuild the platform from scratch without losing momentum. At the same time, the product had to stay fast and searchable, since discovery and matching are core to how users interact with the platform.
We ran a series of user review calls to understand expectations from athletes and the organizations around them. Based on that feedback, we prepared the first draft of the new platform structure and interfaces, then agreed on the feature set and a clear build plan. The result was a sprint ready roadmap focused on the highest value flows and a realistic release timeline.
Mobius assembled a full cycle team and delivered the rebuild in sprints, with UX, engineering, QA, and DevOps working together. We kept delivery predictable through iterative releases and regular reviews, so the client could see progress early and adjust priorities based on real feedback. The platform was rebuilt within roughly a year, with production readiness treated as part of delivery, not a final step.
The Athlete Portal was built as a centralized hub for athletes to manage profiles, access resources, and connect with other professionals. The product experience focused on a clean interface and strong usability, with advanced search and filtering to help users find relevant connections and information quickly.
The implementation used a modern web stack and a scalable backend foundation. The published technology set included Laravel, MySQL, AWS, Algolia for search, and Stripe, with UI and prototype work as part of the delivery.
