Full-cycle rebuild of a job portal platform

Overview

In 2023, Pidbir, a Ukrainian startup, approached Mobius with a job portal running on a legacy codebase that had become extremely difficult to support and evolve. The platform was also struggling to attract visitors, convert users, and bring in hiring companies. Mobius assembled a full-cycle team and designers to rebuild the product from scratch with a modern look, improved performance, and an updated technology stack.

Challenge

Pidbir needed more than a redesign. The existing platform had structural and operational issues that made growth difficult:

• Legacy architecture that slowed development and increased maintenance risk
• Product gaps compared to leading job portals
• Security weaknesses typical for older systems, increasing the risk of sensitive data exposure
• A high-risk migration requirement: transfer existing user data without leaks and switch overnight to minimize downtime

Discovery and product planning

We began with an assessment of the existing platform and a structured planning phase:

• Analysis of the current state, bottlenecks, and failure points
• Agreement on the target feature set and priorities for the new platform
• Definition of a release plan and timeline, including the cutover strategy

We also analyzed competitor job portals, what they were doing well and what users expect and proposed a feature set aligned with market standards, adapted to Pidbir’s positioning and goals.

How we worked

Mobius delivered the rebuild with a full-cycle team working in sprints:

• Sprint planning and clear milestones to ensure predictable delivery
• Design and implementation aligned, with UI/UX and engineering progressing in parallel
• QA and regression testing embedded into the delivery process
• Frequent demos to validate direction and confirm readiness for release

Before the final switch, we ran a dedicated pre-release validation phase:

• Stress testing to confirm stability under load
• Deployment rehearsals and cutover runbooks to reduce migration risk
• Final checks focused on data integrity, security, and rollback readiness

A full rebuild from scratch, including product, infrastructure, and security improvements:

• New UI/UX and refreshed product experience
• Modernized technology stack to support faster iteration and better performance
• Secure migration approach designed for an overnight cutover
• Strengthened security controls to prevent sensitive data leaks that were possible in the legacy system
• Production-ready deployment processes and monitoring for stable operations

Results

• Released in April 2024 after less than one year of rebuilding from scratch
• By the end of 2025, Pidbir became a top-5 job portal platform in Ukraine
• 500% user growth within one year after the release
